Tokoloshe was incredulous, ‘If I were the evil Tokoloshe, would I tell you about Ukhozi? he asked, ‘I would simply swoop down and gobble you up, wouldn’t I?’
Imfukufuku’s head appeared cautiously from the burrow, ‘Are you sure this isn’t a trick?’ he squeaked.
‘You really are a very stupid mole,’ said Tokoloshe impatiently, ‘do you want to hear the rest of my story or not?’
Imfukufuku emerged cautiously from his burrow, ‘I want to hear, he squeaked, and then he added with spirit, ‘but I don’t want to be eaten!’
‘I have no desire to eat you,’ replied Tokoloshe and then he added mischievously, ‘you would give me indigestion,’ and then he rolled over chattering with laughter.
And suddenly imfukufuku was rolling beside him squeaking with laughter too. After a while they both sat up, weak with laughter and wiped their eyes.
‘That was a good joke,’ squeaked imfukufuku, ‘please go on,’ and so Tokoloshe continued with his story.
‘At about that time,’ he said, ‘another Tokoloshe, who was not an evil Tokoloshe decided to pay a visit to his friend, who was named imfukufuku, just like you –‘
