Originally from the shores of the Kwanza river in Angola, the Mbala tribe were forced north-westwards into the Congo area by invading Lunda people. Their chiefs are matrilineal, but all other aspects of life are patrilineal. The Mbala are known for their pindi sculpted figures, which are usually part of the chief's treasure.
