Luba-01
Inspired by a pattern carved into Luba wooden sculpture: from Congo-Kinshasa. The Luba empire was born in the south eastern Congo. The first ruler, Kongolo was deposed by his nephew, Kalala Ilunga in the 16th c. The new king was the first of a long dynasty, the last of whom was Ilunga Kabale, who died in 1870. The Luba carve stools, staffs, bowlbearers neckrests, and other objects. Standing female figures on calabashes also feature in some areas. The Luba also fashion masks in the tradition of the Kifwe Society. Luba carvings are usually made of light wood, blackened and decorated with striped or geometric patterns
