Pattern Name: Adinkra-01
Adinkra cloth, made by the Ashanti people of Ghana. This fabric is made by embroidering wide panels of dyed cotton, and then printing them with carved calabash symbols, using a resin obtained from the boiled bark of the badia tree, mixed with iron slag. According to legend, the Ashanti were taught the atrt of hand stamping on fabric by the son of a king known as Adinkra, whom they had abducted. Adinkra means farewell, and the fabric was worn for funerals, and also when bidding farewell to guests.
