Frequently Asked Questions about Patterns
|
|
What is resolution independence?
|
This is a format that can be read by many different application programs such as ®Adobe Ilustrator, ®Macromedia Freehand and ®Adobe Photoshop. You can re-size the document to any size that you wish and there will be no fuzziness or blurrring. The most commonly used format for resolution independent files is an EPS file. This is the type of resolution independent file that we supply. If you do not have a program that can read and print EPS files, you should rather purchase one of the JPG file formats. |

| What do you mean by file size? |
In the design-africa site we refer to file sizes in kb (kilobytes). The length of time that it would take for a file to download depends on a number of things: the size of the file, the speed of your computer, the bandwidth of your link to the internet, to name a few. In practice, however, we have never had problems concerning the speed with which you receive files. |
| What is an EPS file? |
EPS stands for Encapsulated ®PostScript. Programs such as Corel Draw, PhotoShop, Freehand & Photoshop can read & write this type of file. This will be the file format of choice for most professional users, especially if they want to modify the elements that go to make up the file, or to produce output that is larger than A4 (about 8" x 10"). |
| What is a JPG file? |
JPG (or more correctly JPEG) stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the most efficient and widely used compression format currently available. design-africa supplies files at two different levels of compression:
- High quality, high resolution: 100% quality, 300 ppi. If you do not need to enlarge the printed output more than about A4 (8" x 10") nor to modify the elements in the pattern, then this option will qive you excellent quality.
|
- High quality, medium resolution: 75% quality, 200 ppi. For most people, printing at a non-professional level, this option will offer adequate quality.
